The BlackBerry PlayBook certainly looks like a strong contender against Apple’s iPad, at least amongst RIM’s core enterprise customers. RIM’s dominance of the enterprise smartphone market has begun to come under pressure from Apple and a range of Android competitors, and since the iPad’s launch there has been a lot of discussion about the role of tablet devices in enterprise and the adoption of consumer devices by business users.
The PlayBook is aimed squarely at enterprise users, but RIM has very deliberately included high-end multimedia and gaming capabilities to attract consumers – and of course business users are also consumers.
The PlayBook’s big advantage over the iPad for enterprise customers is that many businesses already have BlackBerry smartphones deployed, and are using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server product to manage their connectivity. Enterprise IT managers understand the security and device management advantages that BlackBerry has over Apple, and RIM will maintain these advantages with the PlayBook, which is fully compatible with existing BlackBerry services.
The danger for RIM is that Apple already has a big head start in the tablet market, and the buzz around its apps and ‘cool factor’ is significant. Many business users will want to bring their own iPads into the work environment, so this is going to be a long and hard fought battle for RIM, but an important one as mobile devices become an increasingly important part of doing business.

Evidence of Two New iPhone Models Found in Apple TV Firmware
Evidence of two new iPhone devices have been found in the just released Apple TV firmware.
The iPhone 4 is referred to as iPhone3,1 by Apple. However, the Apple TV firmware contains references to iPhone3,2 and iPhone 3,3.
These references suggest iPhone 4 devices with minor hardware revisions such as possibly a CDMA version or a device with modifications to the antenna. A major hardware revision would be denoted by iPhone 4,1.
It's also possible that Apple is not planning a major hardware upgrade for next year's iPhone. This would be similar to minor changes made from the iPhone 2G to the iPhone 3G which were respectively denoted as the iPhone1,1 and the iPhone1,2.
There is also an unknown device numbered 20547 that can be seen in the screenshot below.

iPhone Dev-Team Demos SHAtter Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 [Video]
The iPhone Dev-Team has published a video demonstrating the upcoming SHAtter jailbreak for iOS 4.1.
The exploit (and payload) was developed by @pod2g a few months after @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team discovered the crash. That team is hard at work bringing you a brand new tool to make use of the exploit. It’s not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight so please be patient while waiting for any announcements from them.
In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below!
Although PwnageTool was a useful first test of a full iPod 4G jailbreak via SHAtter, it’s really overkill compared to the faster tools being developed. Its main use in PwnageTool will be for those with iPhone4’s, to allow updates while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. In any event, this is another exciting time for iPhone and iPod touch users…the cat and mouse game continues!
The PwnageTool beta is for internal testing only. You can take a look at the video demonstration below...

The iPhone 4 launches in China to a HUGE crowd
More than 50,000 Chinese customers pre-ordered the iPhone 4 and huge lines formed in Beijing for the official launch on Friday, September 24th.
The launch of the iPhone 4 in China appears to have attracted more customers than Apple’s release of its previous iPhone in the country. More than 1,000 people lined up outside the Apple retail stores in Beijing & Shanghai, including the new store at Xidan Joy City shopping mall. Some customers waited as long as two days to be first in line to get their hands on one of the phones, but each customer could only purchase two units of iPhone 4.
However, since the purchasing of the iPhone 4 does not require customers to sign a two-year contract, everybody is taking their chance to grab one from the Apple stores. Check out some of the photos below.

White iPhone 4 Launch Soon?
Let the rumors begin! We told you someone forgot to tell Walmart the white iPhone was delayed in June and yet again they’re hinting at an imminent release. Last time was on their website but this time is in one of their AT&T buying sections. As you can see Walmart has a marker on one of their shelves for that elusive white iPhone 4, at a discounted $197 price point.
We are very skeptical about this one, and the source, Pocket Now, does not state which Walmart location this was taken at or any other important information.

Apple unhappy with Maxis for revealing the plans early?
The lull before the iPhone 4 storm.Yesterday was the eve of the official iPhone 4 launch in Malaysia. And boy, was there a ton of juicy stories going around the intersphere. Well, at least iWorld got the official launch date right – Sept 24th, 2010 – as previously “leaked” to us more than a month ago before the Hari Raya break.
Running up to the Friday launch (today), Maxis started out by sending email notifications to those who have registered their interest in the iPhone 4. DiGi followed suit. But that wasn’t the source of the “juicy bits”.
What happened next: Maxis started to put up the Apple iPhone 4 price plans on their website, but they did so BEFORE the official launch date, possibly to pre-empt DiGi and to secure more sign-ups once the iPhone 4 goes nuclear on Friday, the official launch day. Of course, Apple got upset with this and Maxis had to remove the offending details from their website.
Another story goes around like this: DiGi revealed their iDiGi price plans for the iPhone 4 barely a couple of hours before Maxis started selling theirs. Since the iPhone 4 stock is extremely limited at the moment, and DiGi would only be selling theirs AFTER the launch by Maxis, DiGi would not have a choice but to reveal their plans in order to pre-empt folks from signing a contract with Maxis. And because of this fracas, Maxis decided to “hide” their iPhone 4 plans from the folks at DiGi. Sheesh … “kids” these days love to play hide & seek.
We’ll bring you the rest of the juicy stories in a bit. Stay tuned!

Maxis iPhone 4 launched, prepaid available
The iPhone 4 is finally launched by Maxis and people are getting their units as we speak. The queue to the collection area above is insane. A huge difference compared to DiGi’s event.
During the event it was mentioned that the iPhone is available on prepaid and it comes with free 12 months of 500MB data. However we haven’t seen the price for prepaid yet. Even hotlink’s website is inaccessible at time of posting. The other postpaid price remains unchanged.
We will update more when we can.

DiGi iPhone 4 launched
DiGi has launched the iPhone 4 in Malaysia at Quill BMW showroom. Yes, we know it is rare to have a telco event in an automobile showroom. DiGi is first to “launch” in terms of event but their sales only starts at 10AM tomorrow at 45 DiGi outlets nationwide. This makes Maxis, the first to reach its customers at 12:00AM sharp.
Pricing wise, it is the same as the earlier revealed pricing, but they have reduced it to a further RM5/month if you subscribe for auto billing. You can check out their latest plan here.
Let us run through the extra points that we’ve discovered at the launch.
iPhone 4 Carnival at Quill 9
DiGi is throwing a carnival at Quill 9 BMW Showroom, Section 14, Petaling Jaya over this weekend. Exclusively at this event, they are giving an extra RM100 off for trade in of any phone in ANY Condition. So if you have an old brick phone from 5 over years back, this might come in handy. Of course, if you’re looking to trade-in your iPhone 3G/3GS, Maxis would have a better arrangement as posted here.
Subscribers that port in (MNP) from other telcos, will get exclusive offers including RM100 extra discount during the event and we’re told that they can get it on the spot! However, you can only pick either this or the old mobile trade-in RM100 offer. So no RM200 off if you port in and bring an old mobile.
Offer for existing customer
For DiGi priority customers, which is a reward program for high spending customers, they are giving RM100 off for customers that sign up from 24th September until 3rd October.
If you’re an existing iDiGi customer with an iPhone 3GS, you can get the iPhone 4 with no strings attached at RM300 off, no trade-in required or extensions to your current iDiGi contract. However this is only applicable for those who signed up before today and this is only available from 1st November onwards. So if you wish to take this offer, you gotta wait for more than a month.
That’s all we have for now. For more details, head to DiGi’s iPhone 4 page. Their official pricing is finally up.

[Updated] DiGi iPhone 4 Plans Leaked
From Malaysian Wireless :-
Update 1: I was told that this “leak” is probably planned. You should still wait for the official announcement from DiGi at 6pm. My opinion- DiGi is known for playing dirty marketing tricks. Maxis don’t take the bait please.
So here you go readers. The iPhone 4 retail pricing from DiGi is about the same as Maxis.

DiGi to launch iPhone 4 ahead of Maxis?
From Soyancincau.com
(Update: 22092010 15:33hrs) We just got our invite for the DiGi launch tomorrow. Thanks you DiGi PR Also big thanks to the unnamed source. We don’t know you but you’re awesome!
(Update: 22092010 15:33hrs) Our unnamed source says that it is confirmed that DiGi will be holding a media launch for the iPhone 4 tomorrow, 23 September at 1800hrs ahead of Maxis. iPhone 4s are no available for purchase at media launch but demo units are available for playing around with. At the event DiGi will reveal it iPhone 4 plans. It is also revealed that you will be able to purchase the iPhone 4 from DiGi from 25 September onwards at the One Utama roadshow. We are still trying to get invites for this event. DiGi PR, if you’re reading this, please do drop us a line. Thanks!
Word on the street is that DiGi will launch the iPhone 4 at the same time as Maxis but we are getting unconfirmed reports from an unnamed source that DiGi will be launching the iPhone 4 TOMORROW, 23 September. Specifically at 1800hrs, a full 6 hours ahead of Maxis’ planned midnight iPhone 4 launch.
The source is unable to confirm if this is simply a plan unveiling or if subscribers will be able to get the iPhone 4 on the spot. And it looks to be a media event, possibly not a public one, which means it’s invitations only. Whatever it is we’ll update you on developments as it happens.

Maxis remove iPhone 4 plans. Price subject to change?
In a surprise move, Maxis has removed its iPhone plans and pricing from its website.
Is Maxis adjusting its iPhone 4 plans to counter a better offer from DiGi? With still 2 days to launch, anything is possible. However we felt that Maxis is getting a little fickle minded these days with its show and disappear act on the iPhone 4.
Pricing is obviously sensitive information and if they are not confident of launching it first, revealing them officially days before the launch would definitely catch its competitors attention. Some are speculating that DiGi could beat Maxis to the launch by several hours. Maxis could be waiting to see DiGi’s offer first before they reveal their actual launch plans.
So would the iPhone 4 be cheaper than its earlier published price? It is possible but we’re not expecting them to reduce the iPhone price any further. Perhaps more calls and data quota for their iValue Plans?
You can still view the Maxis iPhone 4 plans here.

RedSn0w Update To Jailbreak iPhone 3G And iPod Touch 2G Running iOS 4.1 Beta 1 And 4.0
The iPhone DevTeam just updated RedSn0w to v0.9.6 beta to jailbreak iOS 4.1 and 4.0 on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G. t uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. It does not include the SHAtter exploit developed by pod2g. Nothing new is revealed to Apple with this jailbreak.
NOTE: IF you need to unlock your iPhone DO NOT use this tool. That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple. If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possible forever).
NOTE: if you have an “MC” model of the ipt2g, your jailbreak will be tethered…sorry! (Consider rolling back to a FW supported by jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com)
NOTE: Windows version coming soon…
Redsn0w 0.9.6 beta supports:
- iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only (for now)
- Mac OS X x86 only (for now)
- 4.1 or 4.0 firwmare from Apple
How to use:
If you’ve already updated your device to 4.1 or 4.0, the next steps are:
- Launch the beta redsn0w 0.9.6b1
- Select your stock 4.1 or 4.0 ipsw (you’ve already used this to update your device to 4.0)
- Select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”. Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.
NOTE: If you choose to “Enable battery percentage”, you actually toggle that off and on via Settings->General->Usage

Update on iOS 4.1 GreenPois0n Jailbreak for iPhone and iPod touch
The hackers from Chronic Dev-Team have posted a rather miniscule update on their official blog on the GreenPois0n tool. GreenPois0n is the tool that was initially going to jailbreak iOS 3.1.3 (iPhone) and iOS 3.2 (iPad) and is now expected to jailbreak iOS 4.1 soon.
Chronic Dev-Team posted:
Many people in the comments are asking for a progress update. Any kind of update that we could actually give would be too technical for anyone to understand anyway, not to mention potentially reveal the exploit. Just know that things are going swimmingly and we are working as hard as we can.
The update can’t really be called an “update” per-se. People keep posting/emailing/tweeting asking for news on the jailbreak. It’s a simple post where they are simply telling everyone anxiously waiting for iOS 4.1 jailbreak to calm the heck down.
Well there’s your answer: the jailbreak will come when it is complete. Chronic Dev Team isn’t giving proper progress details so that the exploit doesn’t get revealed (and then subsequently get patched by Apple). And besides, even if they post any progress updates for now, they will be far too technical for the average Joe to understand.
So yea be patient, and you’ll get your iOS 4.1 Jailbreak soon enough.

"SHAtter" Will Jailbreak iPod Touch 4G, iPhone 4, and iPad
That's right, you read that correctly. In the recent flurry of the iOS 4.1 release, there has been some great breakthroughs in regards to jailbreaking your iDevice. posixninja and pod2g have discovered the first exploit of the S5L8930 chip, aka, the A4, which allows the use of unsigned code execution in order to create a tethered jailbreak, which as far as current hardware released is concerned, a jailbreak for life. This particular chip is used in the iPad, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch 4G. This same vulnerability is the one that was discovered independently by geohot, who abandoned the community a few months ago. However, his name lives on through new jailbreaks today, including the Playstation 3.
Respected members of the Dev Team, like MuscleNerd have also confirmed that this new exploit does indeed work on all of the currently available devices, and works with the newest iOS 4.1. He says on twitter, "That latest exploit from @pod2g confirmed to work beyond iPhone4...also on at least iPad and yesterday's iPod4G too ", which is a great confidence booster for the skeptical.
One should note however, that not everything is publicly available yet. These guys are hard at work trying to get everything ready. So if your thinking to update to iOS 4.1 assuming there is a jailbreak, you should slow down, as things take time and need to be released properly. Remember, what they are talking about here is a Tethered jailbreak, but that doesn't mean an untethered one will follow suit, as this exploit is an initial starting point for all new untethered exploits to come as well. My guess would be that when a release does come around, it will include the ability to be untethered, otherwise it would be much more ideal to stay on iOS 4.0.1.
Using this method means that Apple cannot fix this exploit without updating it's hardware first, just as they did with the iPhone 3GS bootrom exploit. So until they update the hardware, there is hope for all of us. Does this mean you should go out and buy your new iDevice before they fix this? It's not going to be any time soon that Apple will be doing hardware updates, so don't get too worried just yet.

iOS 4.1 Now Live : Do Not Update!
Paul put out a warning today that was advised from the Dev Team, to steer clear of the iOS 4.1 release, which is now currently being pushed live from Apple. That's right, it is now LIVE, and you are strongly advised NOT to update.
Again, this is NOT a big update, however Game Center is an new feature we are all looking forward to it, at least for those with supporting devices, and of course included in the update is the long overdue proximity sensor fix. All in all, it's not quite worth it to lose all the fancy goodies we currently get with out 4.0 jailbreak/unlock.
So, If your Jailbroken and require an unlock, again, Please stay away from this. But if you have no desire for either, feel free to update and post your comments below. Good Luck

iOS 4.1 release may finally resolve your iPhone 3G woes
Good news, everyone! The software update that was "coming soon" to resolve iOS 4.0's terrible performance on the iPhone 3G has gone "gold master" (GM) and should be available to the general public next week. I've had the opportunity to test this update out on my wife's iPhone 3G, and I'm happy to report that it does indeed appear to resolve all the stuttering, crashing, and generalized slowness the iPhone 3G was suffering under even previous beta builds of iOS 4.1.
I tested her iPhone 3G out under the iOS 4.1 GM by doing things that would have brought her iPhone to a standstill before. First, I started a playlist in the iPod app and let it play in the background. Then I went into Safari, where she had four "tabs" open, and navigated to an image-heavy page.
Normally just loading such a page would have caused the background music from iPod.app to start stuttering, but even though I started scrolling back and forth through the page before all images finished loading, I couldn't get Safari to freeze or iPod.app to stutter.
Next, I loaded up the Maps app and started navigating along an input route with music still playing in the background. This was a guaranteed way to bring her iPhone 3G to a screeching halt before, but no matter how much demand I placed on the iPhone, it took it like a champ. I tested Google Earth's app as well, and it was far more responsive than I've ever seen it in iOS 4.
I'm not sure what under-the-hood changes Apple made to get iOS 4 running on the iPhone 3G at an acceptable speed (finally), but I did notice one thing: Spotlight Search on the iPhone 3G no longer searches through text messages. I verified this by comparing the Spotlight settings side-by-side with my iPhone 4; "Messages" was missing as an option on the iPhone 3G. On previous iOS 4 builds, one of the most popular suggestions for improving iPhone 3G performance was disabling Spotlight, so maybe that was the problem all along.
Your mileage certainly may vary, but for at least one iPhone 3G, iOS 4.1's gold master release has finally made the phone just as responsive and useful as it was before iOS 4. And there was much rejoicing.

As you know, Apple introduced today iTunes 10. During the keynote I tweeted, saying that all jailbreakers and unlockers shouldnt updated right now. And everybody was asking why. The answer is simple: once your are jailbroken, you never update to new releases until the iCommunity gives you a green light. Fortunately, iTunes 10 is safe for all jailbreakers and unlockers ( DFU mode, syncing, selecting IPSW, all okay ), and it comes with the following changes:

iPod touch gets revamped: retina display, FaceTime, HD video recording
Current iPod touch wasn't thin enough for you? Look no further than... well, the new iPod touch just announced today. Naturally, Apple has re-upped its "iPhone without the phone" to include the Retina Display from the iPhone 4, an Apple A4 core, 3-axis gyroscope, Game Center, and FaceTime support thanks to the addition of a front cam. Oh, and speaking of cams, it's also got a rear cam capable of HD video -- but you'll be paying a bit more than you will for that cute little nano: $229 for 8GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB (yep, 16GB and 128GB are both no-shows). Ships next week, pre-orders start today; follow the break for the full press release.

Apple to live stream tomorrow’s event
For Malaysian Readers, our time is at 1.00 a.m sharp Tonight :)
Folks, this is one for the books. Apple has announced they will be live streaming tomorrow’s music related event. This is the first time in recent (thanks, commenters) keynote history that a live stream will be offered. This gives us the sense that something HUGE is going down tomorrow and Apple wants to make sure it’s all seen. Maybe they have to show off something indescribable with live blog pictures? Who knows?
You can catch the stream at Apple.com at 10 AM sharp! Oh, and that live-audio stream we said we’ll try to find? Use this one Also: You’ll need a Safari rocking Mac or iOS device to catch the action, PC’s: screw you! It also makes sense that Apple will be offering this stream to ensure their WiFi doesn’t go out like at WWDC due to them’ bloggers. That said, Apple shouldn’t have much issue demoing their new video streaming service and FaceTime-capable iPod touches.
